Mr. Mike,

The Season 9 Office Moves page (http://www.mjq.net/fiveo/season9/offices.htm) has a link at the top to my IMDb Boards Profile (http://www.imdb.com/user/ur2168738/boards/). Since the boards are going away, this should be changed to my IMDb User Profile (http://www.imdb.com/user/ur2168738/). Or to make a long story short, you just need to delete the "boards/" from the end of the URL.

Thanks.

Here's something interesting a friend sent me. There's a pretty cool replica of the message boards for shows, movies, and even actors. Here's an example of the MAGNUM PI site: http://www.moviechat.org/movies/tt0080240. As you'll note there's no episode guide there or cast information but you can see various threads there which existed on IMDB. I don't see the most recent ones, the earliest one is from 13 days ago (created by me incidentally). Looks like this site is for message board purposes only (hence the name "moviechat"). So it's like IMDB but with *only* the message board option. You can search for other shows and movies. Unfortunately I don't see anything on the FIVE-O site, but I do on the FIVE-ZERO site. I'm not quite sure how these got added or who added them or when they were added. Some shows have the threads that existed on IMDB and some don't. But you can always add new ones.

Anyway I thought this was interesting.

It looks like a programmer at that site wrote some kind of macro which would open up pages from IMDB and then grab all the information, stripping off IMDB-specific links. I did a quick and nasty version of this kind of data-mining myself for a lot of the Kojak material on IMDB, which ran to 7 pages in total. Each page on the IMDB discussion boards held 25 messages.

The Five-Zero material on that new site has just over 100 messages, and the Magnum, PI stuff is just over 80 messages.

Given the fact that IMDB is gone now (really gone), it's going to be difficult for people to communicate about where they should be posting about their favorite shows and movies. There are probably going to be lot of boards where there are few messages or no messages, sort of like those pitiful WWW sites which hype shows like Five-Zero and ask for comments, but there are rarely any comments at all.

That's true. The IMDB message boards were this central hub that everyone knew and where everyone could gather. Now that it's gone you'll have every Tom, Dick, and Harry out there trying to create his own version of the message boards.

For any James Bond discussions I'll probably stick to the Bond board over on IMDbv2. For individual shows and movies I'll probably use this moviechat site.

But for now I'm just taking a break from all that.
