I agreed with all your assessment. Danny was completely unprofessional at the police academy and his pause while driving that truck over the stream cost precious time. I am not convinced they were far enough away from that blast to be safe and there is no way Steve did not have some sort of exposure to the radiation. I may need to review my education on nuclear material...
I was clueless what could be going on when that opening scene explosion happened even though I had already said they were not in the clear when Steve was about to lead them out. I completely understood Steve's proclamation at the end. I wonder whether the fact they were the target in this means someone will come out of the woodwork to complete the task they foiled during this episode.

I did not like this episode because Steve and Danny were careless in getting caught. I also know that any bad guy that deep in the jungle would have put them six feet under before anyone else from 5-0 would have known what had happened. I glad the bad guys got what was coming too them but it seems for formulaic and easy for Steve and Danny to disarm two guys with a machine and kill five more. It is part of the 5-0 unlikely occurrences that seem to happen on the show.

I agree with this.

The parachuting into the jungle made no sense, as clearly there had to be a road in there, given all of the people and equipment in the place. (It was supposed to be a terror training camp, not a hideout!)

Near the beginning of the show, I asked my girlfriend, "Wait, if there are no roads in or out, how did a pickup truck get there?!"

Sloppy writing.

I also thought that a bad-ass terrorist like the one Rucker played would have had Steve/Danny killed immediately upon being discovered. That was also hard to swallow, though I guess one could suspend disbelief and say that he wanted to question them and find out who they were, but they fought/escaped before he could.

And of course, the "avoid radiation/explosion" scenes such as Steve wearing a battery on his chest and using a car to shield from an explosion were ridiculous.

Despite these issues, I didn't hate the episode like Mike did. This was more of an "action" episode, and Mike seems to give those poor ratings.

I'm not saying it was a great episode, but I liked it a lot better than "one star". Danno did whine a lot, and their repeated "retirement" conversation became both tiresome and inappropriate. (If you have a dangerous bomb on the back of your truck which might kill a massive number of people, are you discussing your feelings with your law enforcement partner while attempting to drive it away?)

Remove the retirement talk and suspend disbelief for what was clearly an action episode, and it' was actually watchable.
