Starry-eyed Sonny Mandel (Jessica Harper), daughter of a hard-assed LA cop, is framed for murder by Michael Daniels (Pal Shenar), who she believes to be her lover, and his real lover, Liana (Lynn Ellen Hollinger). Michael takes her to a motel and forces her to handle a gun that Liana has used to kill a man. Seizing an opportunity, Sonny escapes and the pursuing duo lose her in a crowd.
The following morning, she encounters a Christ-like figure named Osiris (Steve Carlson), who leads a commune called the Reborn. There she finds safety. While Michael and Liana continue their search, Mr Kaiki (Kwan Hi Lim) visits Five-0 with his wife. He is an inveterate snoop and regularly watches the motel with binoculars from across the street. He reports that there were four people in the motel where the killing occurred, not two like it says in the papers. First, two came in, a man and a good looking woman. Then a second pair came in, another man and woman. But only three people came out. The second woman was being chased by the first woman and the second man. His testimony raises real questions about Sonny's guilt.
An APB is still out on Sonny when one of the Reborn members is injured by some local yokels. When an HPD car arrives to check on the incident, one of the cops thinks he recognizes Sonny in the group and reports that fact to McGarret. He sends Danny and Chin Ho out to the commune to investigate, but they find no trace of Sonny. Osiris and his followers have hidden her under the porch. When Sonny's father, Babe Mandel (Biff McGuire), arrives from the mainland, he is put to work trying to figure out who among the many crooks he has put away might be angry enough to seek revenge by framing his daughter. He finally concludes that it must be Michael Daniels, whose innocent brother was killed in a police raid, the one in which Michael was arrested for drug smuggling.
Meanwhile, Michael, carrying Sonny's picture, has flnally turned up someone who has seen her since she fled the motel. For a few bucks, the guy tells him that she is now part of a hippie group that lives in a house nearby. Michael goes there at once and tries to force Sonny to leave with him. Osiris blocks the way and is shot dead. One of his followers goes berserk and karate kicks Michael through a window and onto the ground two stories below. When Five-0 arrives, they find the group humming a mantra over the paralyzed and panicky Michael, who has been afforded no medical help because, "We heal ourselves here"
NOTE: Hawaii Five-0 regular Kwan Hi Lim was just great in this bit part as an old voyeur. As he left Five-0 headquarters, he kept telling his wife, "You always yelling at me for looking out the window. These guys thank me."
