S03E02 - The Oracle Wore a Cashmere Suit
Robert Webber is a psychic named Roman Clementi that the cops have brought in to deal with the disappearance of a record company executive. Clementi suggests that Rockford, who was also involved in searching for this guy, independently of the cops, knows more than he is letting on. Rockford considers Clementi, who appeared on the Johnny Carson show and is a master of self-promotion, to be a huge pain in the ass. Rockford solves the case, though Clementi strives to get some of the credit. There is one scene in this episode that to me makes no sense whatsoever. (Don't ask me to describe it.) Must have been a big budget for this show, a Jaguar XKE is majorly damaged at the end. When Rockford says to send the "great Clementi a thank you note," it sounds like he is saying "great chlamydia."
S03E03 - The Family Hour
Rockford and his father want to go fishing, but they instead get involved caring for Marin Rose Gaily, a young girl (Kim Richards) who seems abandoned. Rockford has to decide whether to babysit the kid or turn her over to the juvenile authorities, placing her in a "wire mesh hellhole." Her father Stuart (Burt Young of Rocky fame) is being pursued by two goons (Paul Koslo & Fred Lerner) who are corrupt agents working for an equally corrupt DEA cop Al Jollett (Ken Swofford). Stu and his late brother-in-law were involved in drug dealing, and he knows about a "black book" full of information which Jollett wants to get his hands on. The scene at the end of the show where Stu and Marin are threatened with death is hard to take. The episode is complicated, though it has its moments of "cuteness," and pays off in the long run. Johnny Carson is mentioned in this show by Marin, who is a "TV-holic."
S03E04 - Feeding Frenzy
Charly Baylock, played by character actor Eddie Firestone, who was all over the TV map in the 1970s, stole $500,000 three years ago, and the statute of limitations determining when he can be busted for this crime is expiring around the time of the show. Rockford, helping Charly, almost gets busted for two felonies when he tries to help return the money. Various sleazy guys who know about the theft are interested in the cash and kidnap Charly's daughter and Rockford's old girlfriend Sandy (Susan Howard) more than once; a corrupt police officer is also involved. There are some very interesting photographic angles used during the show, and there is a high laugh quotient, including the end, where Baylock freaks out because he owes $250,000 of the money to the IRS. Firestone's acting is first-rate.
