S06E01 - "Paradise Cove" ♥

Mariette Hartley guests as Althea Morgan, a court-appointed receiver assigned to do inventory on Rockford's possessions to help him deal with an unpaid $35,000 judgment after he was found guilty of hitting local crank C.C. Calloway (Leif Erickson, looking long in the tooth) with his car. During a homeowners' meeting, Morgan suggests Rockford should be hired as a security guard to help pay his bills, an idea that Rockford is not crazy about. With help from Becker, Rockford finds out that Calloway was a sheriff in Malibu County in the late 20s/early 30s who was on the take. Near his trailer, Rockford has to contend with employees of the local Hillhaven Hospital who are trying to uncover buried gold bullion connected with one of the hospital's patients, Roscoe Ragland, who Calloway had dealings with back then. Calloway has been trying to find this loot for 50 years, recently using a metal detector. Turns out the gold, stolen from a military vault, is under Rockford's trailer. After it is dug up, Morgan tells Rockford he may get a finder's reward which may help him clear up his debt. Rockford is grateful, and invites Morgan to stay the night. This episode is notable for the number of vehicles, including Rockford's car, which are seriously damaged.
